Professor Staci Pratt teaches CU Law's experiential course on Access to Justice and Innovation, in a lab devoted to training law students to develop and evaluate legal applications in order to make legal services accessible to all. She also writes about innovation and access to justice. In Professor Pratt's A2J Innovation Lab, students embrace emerging opportunities to use legal technology to create and assess online tools used in state and family court systems. As a member of the Colorado Access to Justice Commission's technology committee, Ms. Pratt ensures her students engage in current policy efforts at the statewide level. The A2J Innovation Lab provides students with opportunities to acquire specialized knowledge and fosters collaboration between students, practitioners, and the local community.
Before joining Colorado Law, Professor Pratt developed a Self-Help Clinic at UMKC School of Law in partnership with Missouri Legal Services. She supervised law students as they assisted attorneys providing free limited scope representation to the public. For this work, she and her institution received the AALL Excellence in Community Engagement Award (2020). She also served as a lead designer for the Kansas Protection Order Portal, https://www.kspop.org/, under the direction of the Kansas Judicial Council. Ms. Pratt co-led the development of the online portal during Covid, as a way to provide opportunities for individuals experiencing domestic violence to seek and file protection orders directly with the court.
She obtained her Juris Doctorate at Boston College Law School, graduating with Order of the Coif honors. She furthered her legal education by graduating with an LLM in International Law from King's College, University of London. Her undergraduate work in history was completed at Dartmouth College, where she earned Phi Beta Kappa honors. Ms. Pratt also possesses a Masters of Social Work and a Masters in Information Science. Early in her career, she clerked for the Colorado State Supreme Court. She later worked as Legal Director for the ACLU of Nevada on civil rights and constitutional litigation. She moved to Colorado to assume her current position. She is licensed in Colorado, Nevada, and Missouri.
