Casper, Duet & AAMC Preview | Professional School Application Process | Current Students

Situational judgment tests (SJTs) are commonly required as part of the admissions process for health professions programs. Most of our advisees apply to at least one program that requires the Casper assessment. Some of those schools also require the Duet assessment, which is available at no additional cost after registering for Casper. Applicants to some MD and DO programs may also be asked to complete the AAMC PREview exam.

We recommend spending approximately 5–8 hours preparing for Casper and, if needed, PREview. Focus that time on completing official practice questions to become comfortable with the framework you'll use to work through the scenarios on the tests. Practicing under timed conditions will help you be prepared to provide organized responses within the time allotted. It is not necessary to spend additional time and money on commercial Casper preparation courses; both tests provide free official resources and practice materials that are excellent.

Be aware that Casper and PREview are only offered on certain dates and that you must register for your test date in advance. Score reports are released 2 to 3 weeks after the test date, so select a date that falls before your target date to have all of your other application materials complete (such as secondary applications, standardized test scores, and letters of recommendation) at all of your schools.

Our Tips for Situational Judgment Tests video presentation explains what to expect on the Casper assessment, introduces the major types of Casper questions, and presents a practical framework for organizing your responses. We also discuss the Duet assessment and provide guidance on preparing for the AAMC PREview exam.
