Undergraduate Studies

Opportunities to Learn and Develop Professionally

The Biomedical Engineering Program is highly interdisciplinary, drawing on core engineering courses from mechanical, electrical, and chemical and biological engineering, alongside physiology coursework in biology and chemistry.Ìý BME faculty have varied career,ÌýresearchÌýand teaching experiences which make for a broad range of available technical electives coveringÌýtopics from drug delivery to cardiovascular devices and beyond.

In theirÌýfinalÌýyear of study, students in the Bachelor’s degreeÌýparticipate inÌýSenior Design, a unique capstone design experience that allows students to apply the knowledge they've acquired inÌýfundamental biomedical engineeringÌýcourses to a real-world, open-ended design challenge often with industry sponsors.Ìý

Professional development is also a focus of the program. Students participate in experiences that grow themÌýasÌýprofessionals likeÌýcompany tours, networking events, professional development coursework and undergraduate research.

The College of Engineering and Applied Science also has numerousÌýminorÌýand certificate programsÌýfor engineering students to enrich their studies.ÌýSome students also chooseÌýto extend their undergraduate education through theÌýBachelor’s–Accelerated Master’s (BAM), a program that gives students the opportunity to earn an MSÌýdegree in a shorter period of time.Ìý

Finding CommunityÌý

A strong undergraduate community exists within the Biomedical Engineering Program, in part because of activeÌýstudent organizations like Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) and many others.ÌýBMESÌýplans multiple professional development and community-buildingÌýevents each semester and invites all biomedical engineering students to participate.Ìý
