Nomination and Selection Procedure
Unit-Level Review:听
When a unit wishes to nominate a Teaching Professor/Principal Instructor for the title of Teaching Professor of Distinction, the chair/director of the unit should call upon the appropriate faculty committee (e.g. the committee typically convened to review teaching-stream faculty/instructors) to review and advance a nomination packet which will include the items below. 听
- A letter of nomination from the chair, using data available to the chair (web-based databases, FRPA, annual merit reviews, etc.) to build a case for the nominee.
- Each of the four criteria referenced on this page needs to be explicitly addressed, particularly those components of the nominee鈥檚 record that are not fully represented or explained in the CV.
- The chair鈥檚 letter will typically be multiple pages long. 听
- At least two nomination letters from members of the Teaching Professor or Professor rank of the college, 听
- Nomination letters should be directed to the chair of the candidate鈥檚 department
- A vita,
- A teaching statement,
- A service statement, and
- A teaching portfolio that speaks to multiple measures of exemplary performance.
- Current letters from randomly solicited students
- A confidential list of names and contact information for ten teacher-scholars at institutions other than CU 抖阴传媒在线 who might be asked to be external reviewers should the candidate be selected for nomination. 听
The department will vote on the granting of the honorary title. If the vote is positive, the chair will include the department vote in the chair鈥檚 letter and forward the nomination dossier to the college following the guidelines below.听
College-Level Review:听听
- The department will submit the dossier above for review to CAS-FACULTY@colorado.edu with the subject line 鈥淎TTEN: Teaching Professor of Distinction [Unit]_[Last Name]_[First Name]鈥濃痓y鈥疢arch 31.
- A Teaching Professor of Distinction Selection Committee, appointed by the Dean and consisting of current Teaching Professors of Distinction, shall review nominations and recommend to the Dean a subset of nominees for full review. 听
- The full review will include letters from external reviewers, who will be contacted by the department, which will be forwarded to the Dean鈥檚 office for review by the Selection Committee, with a deadline of approximately鈥疉ugust 1鈥痜or return of letters. 听
- Nomination dossiers and external letters shall be reviewed by members of the Teaching Professor of Distinction Selection Committee.
- By vote, the鈥疌ommittee shall make a recommendation to the Dean.
Candidates whose nominations have received full review by the鈥疌ommittee may be considered more than once during a three year period. Previously nominated candidates whose files did not receive full review by the Committee may not be nominated again for at least three years.鈥
