You're almost there, Buffs! This final week of fall semester 2025 brings to campus free finals week at the Rec, a Kwanzaa celebration, the "Under the Lights" celebration at the campus greenhouse building and more.

Rack ’em up and show off your skills in our 8-ball and 9-ball tournament! It’s free to enter, sign-up starts at 6 p.m. at the front desk and there are prizes for top finishers.

Poker Night

Ready to raise, bluff and go all in? Join our free Texas Hold’em tournament—no pressure, just cards, competition and a shot at some sweet prizes. It’s free to enter and open to all skill levels. Sign-up starts at 6 p.m. at the front desk and there are prizes for top finishers!

Kwanzaa Celebration at the ��ý�� Public Library

5–7 p.m. ��ý�� Public Library, Canyon Theater
The Center for African & African American Studies invites students, staff, faculty and community members to the fourth annual Kwanzaa Celebration, featuring performances by the center’s artists-in-residence.

Thursday, Dec. 11

Mobile Food Pantry

2–4 p.m. Kittredge Central
The mobile food pantry is free and open to CU ��ý�� students, faculty and staff, and community members of ��ý�� and Broomfield counties. Attendees will receive up to 30 pounds of food (weight can vary). Be sure to bring your own reusable bags or boxes! Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

CU Greenhouse 'Under the Lights' Open House

5–7 p.m. CU Greenhouses, 1380 30th St.
Join the CU Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology for an open house at the 30th Street greenhouses. Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to visit the greenhouses after hours for cocoa, face painting and a scavenger hunt. Admission is free ($10 per person donation is suggested). RSVP here.

CU ��ý�� hosted a virtual Campus Budget Town Hall on Nov. 19 to update faculty, staff and students on the university’s financial outlook, fiscal year 2027 budget planning and key factors shaping the campus budget environment. Senior Vice Chancellor for Business, Finance and Infrastructure Todd Haggerty, along with leaders from the budget and finance team, reviewed CU ��ý��’s current financial position; discussed emerging pressures in higher education; and outlined steps the university is taking to support research, academic operations and student-serving units.

The Campus Sustainability Council convened on Nov. 14 to discuss the following topics:

Debrief from town hall

Positive feedback: Attendees appreciated the use of notecards for submitting questions, describing the process as authentic and unscripted.
Student engagement: Students expressed interest in learning how to get involved. The council will ensure materials outlining engagement opportunities are available at future events.
Transparency and communication: Suggestions included posting FAQs from the town hall and considering digital platforms (Mentimeter, FeedBeo) for collecting and upvoting questions at future engagements.
Visibility: The council will explore hosting tables in high-traffic areas to increase faculty, staff and student engagement.
Collaboration: The shared ownership of the town hall aligns with the council's goal of making sustainability feel like a collective effort, so they plan to maintain that inclusive approach.

Next steps

The next town hall is tentatively scheduled for the week of the Campus Sustainability Summit, aiming to build on recent successes and lessons learned.

Proposal form and process

Promotion: The Environmental Center will distribute flyers with QR codes linking to the proposal submission form, leveraging their frequent tabling.
Form improvements: Council members suggested adding targeted questions and prompts (e.g., strategies to eliminate single-use plastics) to the form.
Process transparency: The council will share a simple diagram outlining how proposals move from submission to collaboration, ensuring continued transparency and engagement.

Leadership transition

The council is seeking internal leaders to facilitate meetings next semester. Spring leaders will be identified at the next meeting to support a smooth transition.

Engagement and learning opportunities

Energy-focused tour: Plans are underway for a council tour of Hellems to highlight energy initiatives.
District Energy Plant field trip: The council plans to organize a visit to the district energy plants to assess current operations and future directions.
