We sent this email at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, to students who were on a waitlist for one or more full-semester Fall 2025 Main Campus classes.

Dear [first],

You're currently on a waitlist for one or more full-semester Main Campus classes. While you're on the waitlist:

Because you aren't enrolled in the class, you won't be charged tuition for it and it won't count toward your enrollment status (e.g., full time, half time).
You will, however, appear on the class roster and have access to the online class materials until waitlists are canceled on Sept. 8.

Check Your Waitlist Position

On the First Day of Class

Attend the first class meeting and tell the instructor you're on the waitlist. They may be able to advise you on your chances of being enrolled from the waitlist and whether you should continue to attend the class meetings.

What Happens Next

If a seat becomes available in your waitlisted class:

Between now and Aug. 29, the next eligible waitlisted student will be enrolled automatically. If you’re enrolled automatically, you’ll receive an email confirmation within 24 hours.
Between Aug. 30 and Sept. 7, contact the department offering the class to see if their policies allow them to enroll you manually.
On Monday, Sept. 8, waitlists are canceled. If you still aren't enrolled, you'll lose access to the class's online materials and be removed from the class roster. However, you may be eligible to use course reservation the next time it's offered to guarantee yourself a seat.

What Happens Next

If a seat becomes available in your waitlisted class:

Between now and when automatic waitlist enrollment ends, the next eligible waitlisted student will be enrolled automatically. If you’re enrolled automatically, you’ll receive an email confirmation within 24 hours.
After automatic waitlist enrollment ends, contact the department offering the class to see if their policies allow them to enroll you manually. If not, you may want to remain on the waitlist so you're eligible for course reservation, which can guarantee you a seat the next time the course is offered.

After waitlists are canceled, if you still aren't enrolled, you'll lose access to the class's online materials and be removed from the class roster. If you remained on the waitlist, we'll email you a reminder during the next course reservation period. Additional eligibility requirements may apply and some classes are only offered during certain semesters.

Registration is open for Fall 2025, but you haven't enrolled in classes yet. For the best chance to get the classes you want, we encourage you to register as soon as possible.

As a continuing graduate student, you’re able to register now. Registration remains open through open enrollment, which begins Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025.

Working on Your Thesis or Dissertation?

If you’re a master’s or doctoral student working only on your thesis or dissertation, we encourage you to reach out to your faculty advisor to establish a plan for your thesis/dissertation work during the fall semester.

Students who've graduated from a degree program aren't allowed to take additional courses in that program; therefore, we've placed you in a nondegree program for spring semester. You're still enrolled in your classes.

Your Next Steps

Enrollment changes like this one may result in an adjustment to your bill and financial aid package. Check your tuition and fee balance in Buff Portal and visit the Continuing Education website or meet with an advisor to learn more about nondegree tuition and fees.

As a nondegree student, you'll register for Main Campus classes through ACCESS in the future. If you wish to pursue another degree, you may:

Effective Spring 2022, grade replacement is applied automatically at the end of each semester when a student repeats an eligible course, and there is no longer a limit to the number of credit hours students can use for grade replacement. However, some academic programs have limits on the number of course repeats allowed for specific courses or number of attempts for degree applicability.

Note: Grade replacement may be revoked by action of the Office of Student Conduct if an honor code violation is found to have occurred.

About Your Transcript & GPA

Remember, under grade replacement the grade you earned in your most recent prior attempt will still appear on your transcript, but it will be replaced in your cumulative GPA and credit totals by the grade from your latest attempt as long as that grade is the same or better.

Continuing undergraduate registration for Fall 2025 closes May 22 at 11:59 p.m. After May 22, you will not be able to add or edit your classes until the schedule adjustment period opens July 23.

Waitlist processing for Fall 2025 classes will pause starting May 23 and will resume July 23. For the best chance to get the classes you want, we encourage you to register as soon as possible.

Your enrollment status may affect your eligibility for housing, tuition remission, health insurance, financial aid, loan deferment status, purchasing a CU Sports Pass and more. We started sending this email on Monday, April 21, 2025, to students who were enrolled in a Fall 2025 class that was evaluated as eligible for grade replacement.

Dear [first],

According to our records, you've enrolled to retake the same class or a direct equivalent of [Class] in Fall 2025. We've evaluated that this class is eligible for grade replacement.

Grade replacement is applied automatically at the end of each term for eligible courses and students. We’ll send you another email once grade replacement has been applied to your record (after grades have posted at the end of the semester).

Remember, the grade you earned in the most recent prior attempt will still appear on your transcript, but it will be replaced in your cumulative GPA and credit totals by the grade from your latest attempt as long as that grade is the same or better.

Repeating a Course Without Grade Replacement

If the course becomes ineligible for grade replacement, grade replacement won’t be applied and the grades from both attempts will be included in your cumulative and major GPAs, credit totals and academic standing. For example, if a lower grade is earned in the latest attempt, or if you withdraw or drop the class. Learn more about the eligibility requirements for grade replacement.

You may also repeat a course without grade replacement by submitting an opt-out request from your Colorado email to registrar@colorado.edu by the last day of the semester. Opting out of grade replacement is irreversible. Please meet with your advisor to discuss how opting out of grade replacement will impact your GPA and academic standing.

Friday, March 21 is the last day for undergraduate and graduate students (law students excluded) to complete the following actions for a full-semester Main Campus class:*

Drop a class: If you drop a Main Campus class after Feb. 1 but remain enrolled in the semester, you'll be required to pay 100 percent of tuition and fees (no refund), and a W grade will post to your transcript.
Change a class's grade mode from letter grade to pass/fail (or vice versa): Only student-option courses** are eligible. The last day to change a class to or from no credit (audit) was Jan. 29.

If you've satisfactorily completed a substantial amount of work for a class but are unable to complete it due to reasons beyond your control, you may request an incomplete (I) grade. This will give you additional time to complete your coursework before your instructor is required to assign your final grade. For more information, see CU ��ý��'s incomplete grade policy.

*If you're taking a special session Main Campus class, check the special session calendar for that session's deadlines.

**If a department designates a course as student option, it's your choice whether to take it for a letter grade or as pass/fail.

Friday, March 21 is the last day for undergraduate and graduate students drop a class or change pass/fail status for a full-semester Main Campus class.
