Matt Villeneuve is a Ph.D. Candidate in History at the University of Michigan and a 2020-2021 Visiting Fellow at Harvard University and is of Turtle Mountain Chippewa descent.��He received his M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and B.A. from University of Oregon.��His research is on the early twentieth century United States, with a particular focus in American Indian history. His dissertation, titled “The Indigenous in Intelligence: John Dewey and American Indian Education, 1884-1934,” is an intellectual history which studies the relationship between schools, citizenship, and democracy through the lens of American pragmatism and settler colonialism. From 2018-2020, he was a Career Diversity Fellow with the American Historical Association.��He recently contributed to the University of Michigan’s Reverb Effect Podcast: Episode 4: Archive Magic: Assembling History, One Clue at a Time.��
