    The CU 抖阴传媒在线 2023 Best Should Teach Lecture and Awards Ceremony will celebrate excellence in education by recognizing outstanding CU 抖阴传媒在线 faculty members, K-12 teachers and graduate student instructors with Best Should Teach Awards on May 1 at 6 p.m.聽Free and open to the public, the ceremony will feature award-winning author Alyssa Hadley Dunn, who will deliver the keynote talk, 鈥淭eaching on Days After: Educating for Equity in the Wake of Injustice鈥 to address teaching after tragic or traumatic events.聽

    Join the CU 抖阴传媒在线 School of Education on Tuesday, April 18 for Ed Talks, a series of short talks that address some of today's most pressing issues in education and beyond. Inspired by TED Talks, spring 2023 Ed Talks will focus on the personal legacies of changemakers and the ongoing fight for civil rights.

    On March 15, Christine Ahn, an INVST Community Studies alumna and Nobel Peace Prize Social Activist Awardee, will聽lead a discussion following the public screening of the "Crossings" documentary about 30 women peacemakers and activists who crossed the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea calling for an end to a 70-year war that has divided Korea and its people.
  • Enihs Medrano and JD Mangat
    20-year-old Enihs Medrano never envisioned herself serving in local government until a program for young people opened her eyes to the power of civic engagement. As a high schooler in Lafayette, Medrano connected with JD Mangat, a fellow Lafayette resident who became Medrano鈥檚 coach and mentor in Public Achievement, a youth-led civic engagement program within CU Engage.

    CU 抖阴传媒在线 researchers have been working with state partners to understand聽and address the financial strain new teachers face when trying to enter the educator workforce and elevate teacher candidates鈥 voices. Their work paid off when Gov. Jared Polis signed first-of-its-kind legislation for Colorado that will support new teachers and create student-educator stipends.
  • Public Achievement ethnic studies course
    With help from CU 抖阴传媒在线鈥檚 Public Achievement (PA) program students and staff and support from 抖阴传媒在线 Valley School District administrators, several high school juniors' dream of creating an ethnic studies course at Lafayette鈥檚 Centaurus High School is becoming a reality. PA leaders developed curriculum for the first-of-its-kind social studies elective class exploring culture, identity, race and ethnicity, and they hope it will be offered districtwide in 2023.

    On April 14, the School of Education at CU 抖阴传媒在线 will host a virtual gathering of Ed Talks. Inspired by TED Talks, these short talks will explore the theme of political courage, including book censorship, gender and sexual diversity in schools, institutional violence, and the personal and powerful battles for inclusive higher education and STEM opportunities.聽

    Just before Denver's Pride weekend, the team behind an innovative effort to make classrooms safer for LGBTQ youth discusses how schools shape what people think is normal. A Queer Endeavor and a talented group of graduate students and faculty from the School of Education, will host their third Educator Institute for Equity and Justice in July.

    Born out of the pandemic but not confined to it, the new Buffs for Front Line Service Employees program provides equitable educational support to the families and school-aged children of the university鈥檚 essential employees. Through in-person and virtual support across subject areas and grade levels, Buffs4FLSE fosters a welcoming and nurturing where CU 抖阴传媒在线 service employees and their families feel seen and valued.
