Srđa Popović is an internationally recognized expert on nonviolent resistance, civic mobilization, and strategic activism. He was a founder and key organizer of Otpor! (“Resistance!”), the Serbian nonviolent movement that helped bring down Slobodan Milošević in 2000. Following that transition, he served as a member of the Serbian National Assembly.
In 2003, Popović co-founded the Centre for Applied Nonviolent Action and Strategies (CANVAS), a global training organization that has worked with pro-democracy activists, civil society leaders, and human rights defenders in more than 50 countries. Through CANVAS, he has supported movements in places including Georgia, Ukraine, Venezuela, Iran, Burma, Zimbabwe, and Belarus.
Popović has taught courses on nonviolent movements, democracy defense, and strategic activism at institutions such as Harvard University, the University of Virginia, New York University, Columbia University, and Colorado College, where he has been a Distinguished Visitor and Adjunct Lecturer since 2007.
He is the author of Blueprint for Revolution, published in twelve languages, and a frequent commentator in major international media. His work focuses on how ordinary people organize, innovate, and challenge power through strategic nonviolent action.
