Satang Nabaneh

Satang Nabaneh, Ph.D., LL.D., is an award-winning scholar, educator, and human rights practitioner specializing in democratization, transitional justice, and comparative constitutionalism. She currently serves as the Director of Programs, and Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Dayton Human Rights Center. As a scholar-activist, Nabaneh is the founder of Law Hub Gambia and co-founder of Think Young Women (TYW). Her extensive experience includes roles with the African Union and the University of Pretoria. Her scholarship is at the forefront of contemporary human rights discourse. She also is the editor of Female Genital Mutilation: Politics of Criminalisation (2025), and her insights have been featured in The New York Times, Reuters, Time, and Ms. Magazine. Nabaneh’s work has earned international acclaim, including being named a 2025 Women Have Wings Laureate and receiving the 2023 Women in Law–Austria Justitia Award. In 2024, she was recognized by The Africa Report as one of the 10 African Scholars to Watch.
