David W. Brown is a freelance writer whose nonfiction appears regularly in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and Scientific American. He is the author of THE MISSION (Custom House, 2021), about a group of scientists who spent twenty years convincing NASA to send a spaceship to Europa, the ocean moon of Jupiter. His next book, THE OUTSIDE CATS (Mariner Books), is a memoir of his two expeditions to Antarctica, and the story of a team of researchers who built a surreptitious, ad-hoc, international cooperative to explore the Antarctic and study rapid sea-level rise.

He is an endurance runner, a former U.S. Army paratrooper, a veteran of Afghanistan, and a committed volunteer for local animal rescue. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University and holds a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

Brown lives in New Orleans, Louisiana.
