, dubbed 鈥渢he essential quartet of our time鈥 by The New York Times, is fresh off its 50th anniversary season of international touring and critical acclaim. Fej茅r will step down at the end of the 2025-26 season after a remarkable 51- year tenure. And the quartet鈥檚 newest member, Romanian-born cellist Mihai Marica,听will join the quartet this fall. 鈥淲e鈥檙e very grateful to Andr谩s for the fulfilling and fun quartet work we鈥檝e shared,鈥 said Edward Dusinberre, first violinist. 鈥淲e鈥檙e especially grateful for the sustained integrity of his musicianship, and for his friendship, support and humor. While cherishing Andr谩s鈥 extraordinary legacy, we鈥檙e thrilled to welcome Mihai.听
鈥淔rom the very first notes we played together with Mihai, we felt an instant musical connection, and we eagerly look forward to the future.鈥澨
Fej茅r added, 鈥淚t鈥檚 the right time 鈥 I鈥檝e had a beautifully rewarding quality of life, working on inspiring music with wonderful colleagues who became great friends and performing all over the world for appreciative audiences. My heartfelt thanks to all our friends and supporters over the years 鈥 I鈥檒l miss you like mad.鈥澨
The news comes among many recent accolades for the quartet, including Chamber Music America鈥檚 prestigious Richard J. Bogomolny National Service Award in recognition of the Tak谩cs Quartet鈥檚 contributions to the chamber music field.听
鈥淭he quartet not only elevates the reputation of our college and university as a whole through its world-class artistry, but especially through its members鈥 devoted mentorship of our students and their strong spirit of community engagement,鈥 said John Davis, dean of the College of Music. 鈥淭he Tak谩cs Quartet represents the very best of what we do, and we look forward to its continued impact and influence.鈥
