Kate holds a master’s degree in applied Linguistics from the University of Colorado Denver and a B.A. in English Literature and Women’s Studies. She began her career in the Peace Corps, where she led the academic writing program at the University of Pardubice in the Czech Republic. She later taught and developed curriculum in debate and business English at the University of Denver. Through a Georgetown University Fellows Grant, Kate worked in Guatemala designing ESL curricula for schools in Quetzaltenango and subsequently served as Director of the English Language Department at Universidad del Valle in Sololá. She later received a U.S. Department of State English Language Specialist grant to teach academic writing and citation to university faculty in Colombia. Kate has trained in Washington, D.C., as a reviewer for the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and has presented at international conferences including TESOL, EnglishUSA, and NAISA. Her presentations have focused on using drama in the classroom, facilitating professional book clubs for instructors, and teaching citation practices to international students. Outside of ESL, Kate enjoys teaching yoga and cycling at her local gym and backpacking with her family and their dog, Bella.Ìý
